Hollis Blanchard Harrell

Hollis Blanchard Harrell, 80, of Fairfax Station, Virginia, passed peacefully while surrounded by family and friends at Inova Fairfax Hospital on August 15, 2019. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Isolda H. Harrell; his two sons, Hollis and Karl, and his daughter, R. Haydee; his sister, Joan and her husband Jim Schessler; and his seven grandchildren, H. Gregory, Cristina, Jacqueline, Joseph, Alec, Paulina, and Christian. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Katharine Harrell, and his brother, Henry.
He was born and raised in Massachusetts and was a resident of Virginia for 49 years. He proudly served for over 40 years in the United States Government before retiring from his role as Division Chief and Senior Executive in the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation. Throughout his life and retirement he enjoyed his gardening at home, reading and writing books (science fiction), and traveling on vacations with his wife, children, and grandchildren (and family dog, Fluffy).
He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many. His funeral mass will be held at Saint Mary of Sorrows Historic Church, 5612 Ox Road (Route 123 & Fairfax Station Road), Fairfax Station, VA 22039, on Tuesday, August 27, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. followed by graveside prayers and a reception at the same location. To the surviving family of Hollis Harrell… I grew up in West Newton, MA, One of my friends in elementary school was Hollis Harrell. I’ve been thinking about him recently…. looked him up, and am saddened to hear of his passing. My heartfelt condolences. Jonathan Kelley
