She and Doug were married in 1946 and as a career Navy family travelled the world. According to Hope, she moved 23 times. She had particularly fond memories of Holy Loch, Scotland, and Rota, Spain. Their love of Spain was capped by building and owning a home at Sotogrande on the Costa del Sol. Hope and Doug finally settled in McLean, VA where Hope lived until after Doug's death in 2000. For many years, Hope was an active residential realtor. She served her community as a member and President of the McLean chapter of the AAUW. She was a avid reader, traveler, gourmet cook, golfer and member of River Bend Country Club. She loved living at Leisure World of Virginia. She interviewed residents and wrote about them for the Leisure World newsletter. She was an enthusiastic participant in Leisure World activities, especially the book club. She will be sorely missed by her family who will remember her always for her unfailing love of her family, her incredible intelligence, her independence, her adventurous spirit, her vivaciousness and her generosity. The family wishes to thank all Hope's many caregivers, Sassy's dedicated dog walkers, and Capital Caring Hospice for their kindness and support. A private ceremony will be at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery where Hope's husband and her brother Donald Furlong,( Capt. USN, retired, US Naval Academy Class of '39) were previously laid to rest. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Parkinson's Foundation of the National Capital Area or the Loudon SPCA.

Peter, I hope you remember my name from the past. Sorry to hear about your Mom saw her name while searching another name. Your parents were always very nice to me. I remember your Mom had a great sense of humor. Robby (Maxson) Robinson (robbijohn@verizon.net)
My deepest sympathy to Hope’s family. She was a shining light and also fun to be with as we shared the events and responsibilities of the McLean Area AAUW Branch. I know she enjoyed her move to Leisure World and I was happy for her, though sad to have her leave McLean.
All of the members of the McLean Branch of the AAUW send condolences to Hope’s family and friends. She was a long time member of the Branch and we will miss her greatly. Linda Regan for the McLean AAUW.
