Hugh D. McClafferty

Hugh D. McClafferty, age 86, retired CIA support officer, died Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at Fairfax Hospital, Falls Church, VA of respiratory failure. Mr. McClafferty was born on July 13, 1929 and raised in Mauch Chunk, PA, now Jim Thorpe. After serving in the U.S. Army from 1951 1953 during the Korean War, he returned to Pennsylvania where he was employed with the Jersey Central Railroad. He moved with his family to the Washington DC area in 1955 to begin a thirty-year career with the Central Intelligence Agency. He served both at headquarters and overseas as a support officer and resource manager. Mr. McClafferty was a lifelong Catholic and a founding member of St. Mark Catholic Church in Vienna, VA. He was also a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. He graduated from Southeastern University in Washington DC with a business administration degree.
Hugh McClafferty is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Helen; five children, Patrick McClafferty of Reston, VA, Rosanne (Tom) White of Oakton, VA, Dennis (Rosemary) McClarfferty of Orlando, FL, Michael McClafferty of Everett, WA, and Ellen Ann Valliere of Ashburn, VA. He had 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A private memorial service will be held for family and friends with interment to be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
