Ina Claire McCarthy

Ina Claire McCarthy, 88, of Mclean Virginia, passed away on July 29, 2026, after a long battle with congestive heart failure.
Ina was born on September 29, 1937, to Clyde and Lucille Winberry in Memphis Tennessee. She graduated from Treadwell Highschool in 1954.
In 1959, Ina met James McCarthy, who was stationed at US Navy Installation Millington Tennessee where they were wed in 1960, going on to have 3 children, Ben, Sam and David. The Navy life took her and her family to California, Florida, Georgia and Reston Virginia were the family retired from the Navy in 1977. Ina went to work as a bookkeeper to help support the family when James went back to school to pursue a law degree. She separated from James in 1992 and divorced in 1996, moving to Vienna Virginia in 1996 and then Mclean Virginia in 1999.
After retiring in 1999, Ina spent her time traveling and volunteering for many causes. Habitat for Humanity, So Others May Eat and Meadowlark Gardens were her favorites. She was an avid reader and faithful patron of the Fairfax County Libraries. Ina was a devoted lifetime member of an international fellowship she adopted as a second family. She served as a trusted mentor to so many.
Ina was predeceased by her sisters and brothers, June, Barbara, Gary and James. Ina is survived by her sons Ben, Sam, David and her best friend, George Morvan and many other best friends.
