Ingrid “Bing” Schroeder
September 9, 1944 ~ September 16, 2023
Ingrid “Bing” Schroeder, 79, of Vienna, VA, passed away on September 16, 2023. Bing was born on September 9, 1944 in Hicksville, NY to Sidney and Gladys Carlson. Bing and her sister Karin were raised in Hicksville and during High School their father’s career in the Merchant Marines took them to Indonesia.
Bing attended high school at the Brent International School in Manila, Philippines. Following her time in the Philippines, Bing attended Hofstra University and studied abroad in Perth, Australia. Bing earned a bachelor’s degree in Geology, and moved to the Washington, DC area to work for the Federal Government.
It was there that she met her future husband, Bob Schroeder. The two married on August 8, 1970 and were married for 52 years before Bob’s death in 2022. Following the birth of her daughter, Bing became a stay at home mom and dedicated her life to raising her two children. Bing loved to volunteer and was a fixture at her children’s schools and activities.

She was an excellent cook, and enjoyed making wonderful meals that reflected her unique, international upbringing. Bing was a member of several loving communities and was lucky to develop lasting friendships and serve as a mentor to others.
Bing is predeceased by her husband Bob, her sister Karin, and her parents Sidney and Gladys. She is survived by her children Gretchen Johnson (Chris) and Matt Schroeder (Liz); Nieces Becky Mixon and Mandy Eichenseer; and her beloved grandchildren Allison, Andrew, Nathan, and William.

Bing was a special woman. A warm welcome greeted me when, as a new rug hooker I had no idea what I was doing. She truly cared about people and often spoke of her grandchildren.
You were lucky to have had her in your lives.

I just learned of Bing’s passing. What a beautiful person, with such a loving spirit. What an honor to have known the two Carlson girls. The two years I spent at Brent School with Bing as a classmate (and fellow losing Student Government candidate) were truly special and Bing did so much to make it so. Rest in peace, dear lady.
