Jack Woodward Dice, Col USA (Ret)

November 9, 1937 ~ August 24, 2017
On Thursday, August24, 2017, Jack lost his battle with Alzheimers and joined "The Long Grey Line." Following in his fathers footsteps, he graduated from the United States Military Academy, West Point in 1960, beginning a proud and dedicated 25 year service to his country. On his first assignment to Germany he met and married Marga Thiele from Wuerzburg. Next came Vietnam (Purple Heart), graduate school at Duke, teaching Military History at West Point, and a second tour in Germany with the highlight of his career, the command of the 3rd Squadron 11th Armored Calvary Regiment. After attending the War College at Carlisle, PA, the family moved to Daegu, Korea, with the 19th Support Command. From1980 until his retirement in 1985, Jack served as Deputy Commander of the (then) new Department of Military Instruction (DMI) at West Point. Having a horse and animal loving family, a small farm in Virginia was the ideal place for retirement. However, Jacks second successful and much enjoyed career was working together with Marga in Real Estate for nearly 25 years.
Mourning his loss are marga, his wife of 55 years, his son Christof and wife Rhonda, daughters, Kerstin Stoval and husband David, Bettina Markowitz and husband Jonathan, grandsons, Jack and Brian French, his siblings, Fletcher Dice, Joe Dice, Eleshea Lively, Kathy Hirano and their families, and his beloved dog, "Tony."
A Celebration of Life and interment at West Point will be at a later date in October. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in his memory to Homeless Animal Rescue Team (hart90.org)

To Marga and all the Dice family, I was very sorry to see the notice about Jack’s passing. What fun we had in Bad Hersfeld. Webb was quite an admirer of Jack and all that he did. My condolences to all of you. Judy Kremer

Deepest sympathies from our family to yours on the loss of a great husband and father. We hold all of you in our hearts.
My condolences to Marga and The Dice family. Col Dice was my first permanent party commander in Bad Hersfeld in 76 .
Col. Dice was my commander in Bbad Hersfeld Germany. I thought him to be competent and successful leader. Yes, he was one of the best Commanders we had. Fair and an honest man. It grieves me to hear of his passing. RIP Sir, I’ll join you back at fiddlers green.
