James Kaoru Shimabukuro
December 23, 1929 ~ June 28, 2022
James K. Shimabukuro, beloved husband and father went home to be with our Lord on June 28, 2022. He was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on December 23, 1929, the second youngest of eleven children, to parents who migrated from Okinawa. When he came of age, he enlisted in the then Army-Air Force and during the Korean War served in Korea, and in Japan. In Tokyo, he met his future wife, the former Harue Sugizaki, to whom he was married for 64 years, and had three sons. Following his discharge from the Air Force, he became a civil servant, eventually called to the Pentagon in 1974 and served as Procurement Officer until his retirement in 1983. He is survived by his wife, his son Earl, and daughter-in-law Fun Sheuit. He is predeceased by his sons Daryle and Dean. Jim will be buried next to his sons in the family plot at Valley of the Temples, in Kaneohe, Hawaii. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Go For Broke-National Education Center (goforbroke.org), the USO (uso.org), or the Special Olympics (specialolympics.org).
Our most sincere condolences to Jim’s family. We feel blessed to get to know him in the recent years, and we will miss him so much. Our prayers will always be with him. (Photos from January 14, 2019, as we shovel snow with Jim). Halide & Erhan
In memory of your Dad, I made a contribution to Special Olympics. Thoughts and prayers are you with and your family…. Sincerely, Dima
