Born in:
South Hill , Virginia
Resided in:
Fairfax, Virginia
Jean Davies Hoadley, 97, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 11, 2025 in Fair Oaks, Virginia. Jean was born and raised in South Hill, VA, and Aucilla, FL, the daughter of Clyde and Jewel Davies, both teachers. Her father was also in the US Army reserves and at the close of WWII, when she was just 19, Jean traveled to Kyoto, Japan, with her mother and brother as Army dependents, where she met her father’s friend, Capt. Dallas Hoadley. They married in 1947 in Jacksonville, FL, and remained married for 60 years. Jean raised her four children, Ellen, Stephen Dallas, David Thomson, and Melissa, while traveling the world as an Army wife.
Jean and Dallas helped establish Springfield Christian Church in the 1950’s and Fairfax Christian Church in the early 1960’s, and their Christian faith remained a major factor throughout their adult lives and marriage.
As her older children began leaving home, Jean enrolled at George Mason University, earning both a Bachelors of Science and a Bachelors of Music degree. She passed the certification as a Medical Technologist and enjoyed her work in the lab at Fairfax Hospital until 1992. Her work at Fairfax Hospital prompted her to begin a lifelong habit of regularly donating both whole blood and blood platelets. She only stopped donating platelets when she reached her goal of 200 units in her 80’s.
During her life, Jean combined her career with her love of the arts as evidenced in her piano accompaniment of church services and attendance at concerts, ballets and theater events as well as her sewing, knitting, and tatting & needle lace making (lost arts which she studied in Belgium and England). She shared her love of these activities by inviting those who wanted to learn into her home for shared lessons. She instilled her love of music in her husband and children, for which they could never thank her enough.
Jean was predeceased by her husband, Dallas, her son, David, and her grandson, Brandon. She is survived by her sister-in-law Athena, her children, Ellen, Stephen and his wife Donna, Melissa and her husband Ghassan Amr, and her daughter-in-law MaryPat Hoadley. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Michael, Gwendolyn, Brian, William, Deborah, Tamer, Mafa, Christina and Kathy, and 21 great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by these plus her extended family members.
A celebration of Jean’s life will be held at Money & King Funeral Home in Vienna, VA, on Saturday, February 1st, with visitation from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. and a memorial service at 4:00 p.m. Jean will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery with her dear Dallas in a private family ceremony
