Rita Jean Rohrer Gerblick

February 13, 1931 ~ December 6, 2020

Jean R. Gerblick of McLean, VA passed away peacefully in her sleep and greeted our Good Lord the morning of December 6, 2020. Beloved wife of 68 years, she is survived by her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, James W. Gerblick. A devoted mother of six children, Jeanine Brunetti, Julie Andresen, James P. Gerblick, Jack Gerblick, Jill Hutchinson, and Jerilyn Martin, she is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Jean was born in Detroit, MI and was the youngest of 5 children born to Margaret and Jacob Rohrer. Her father lovingly referred to her as his “Funny Valentine” because she was born on February 13th. Jean’s warm and caring nature led her to the nursing profession, which became her lifelong career and passion in addition to motherhood.

Jean had a heart that her children would often say was too big for her small body. While petite in stature, Jean was mighty in spirit, and she filled her family’s lives with her enduring love for 89 years.

Jean’s life will be celebrated with a private Catholic memorial service on December 15th at Money & King Funeral Home in Vienna, VA.

While flowers are welcomed, donations are preferred and can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to the American Cancer Society in memory of Jean’s father and sisters.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. To a special lady, who made it possible for me to have my own special lady in my life. We will miss you, and hope you are enjoying those new angel wings you always wanted.

  2. I will always remember when mom made things “alright” between the two of us. I had had misgivings about her eldest daughter and I running off together, then getting married, then having our first child, without mom being able to enjoy the whole experience, especially with HER first child. Then, during one of the last Gerblick weddings, she came up to me, put her arm around me, kissed me on the cheek, and said, “I’m so done with all of this. You did it right!” Thanks, mom. You’ll never know how much that meant to me, even if you said it somewhat in jest. I’m so glad for you that you are rid of the misery you endured over the past months. I’ll miss you……

  3. If it wasn’t for you and your devotion to your family, I would not be here! This Christmas baby is thankful for you, especially during the holiday season. Love, Natalie

  4. What a loss for all who knew her. Our “Grandma Jean” has quite a legacy that lives on through her 6 children, 11 grandchildren, and ever growing number of great grandchildren. All of whom have been molded by the example set by such a beautiful and loving woman. Rest in Peace Grandma. Love J.D., Elizabeth, J.R., and Emma (the next generation of Gerblick’s)

  5. Grandma, we’ll all miss your contagious smile and your bright personality. Don’t worry, my siblings and I will keep our dad in line for you. I love you and I’m honored to carry on the Gerblick name. Love, Ryan

  6. Grandma, what a beautiful legacy you have left behind. So many of us will hold you forever in our hearts and you will be kept alive by our memories of you. “Grief is the price we pay for love” Love, Michelle (Gerblick) Siska, Erik, Reagan and Ainsley

  7. Grandma – Now that I’m a mom of one, I have so much more admiration for you being a mom of six! Not only did you manage to keep Dad out of trouble (for the most part!), you raised him to be such a loving and supportive father. Thank you for sharing your stories, your sense of humor, and your love. Love, Kate

  8. Mom, you are forever in my heart. Rest now in peace, angels by your side. Love you and miss you so much….Jeanine

  10. Hi Mom: This has to be my favorite Christmas picture of ALL time! It always brings with it warm memories of “our” Mrs. Claus. I now know how hard it is to lose a parent around the holidays. Thank you for always making them happy for us despite your own personal loss and grief. Please give both of your parents a warm hug for me in heaven! Thinking of you, Mom!

  11. Merry Christmas, Mom! I lit two candles today, one for you and the other for baby Jesus. Remembering you today, Mom, with a big smile!
