John P. Callaghan

John “Jack” Callaghan, a man whose life was marked by a deep love for his family, passed away on his 92nd birthday, June 5, 2026. Born in 1934, in New York, NY, Jack was a beacon of strength, proud of his Irish heritage and devoted fan of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the NY Giants.

Jack was the beloved husband of the late Dolores Malloy, his cherished partner in life with whom he shared 64 years of marriage and a love of dancing and music.  Their union, which began on May 2, 1959, was reportedly “love at first sight” and a testament to enduring love and partnership, providing a foundation of warmth and support to their family.

Jack studied electrical engineering at Manhattan College. His long career was characterized by innovation and dedication, as he worked throughout the U.S. and internationally, designing electrical power systems for the generation and transmission of electricity.  He told many great stories of his work travels, especially memorable were those trips to Germany, Japan, and Saudi Arabia.  Don’t ask about the sheep’s eye!

Jack was a devoted father to his children: Ann (m. Daniel Warcholak), John (m. Roxana Gonzales), Robert (m. Usha Maharaj), Carol (m. Robert Evans), and Christine (m. Leonard LaPetina). He instilled in them the virtues of hard work, resilience, and the importance of family, lessons that have been passed down to his grandchildren, Kathryn Warcholak (m. Kyle Raab), Daniel Warcholak (m. Victoire Barreto), Natasha Warcholak (m. Tom Switzer), Seth Callaghan, Leonard LaPetina, Patrick Evans, Sophia LaPetina, Sean Evans, Evelyn LaPetina, and his precious great-granddaughter, Zoe Warcholak.  He also passed on his competitive spirit while playing chess and poker with his grandchildren and his friends at Brightview.

Jack was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dolores, and his son, Robert. Dolores and Robert’s memories remain alive in the hearts of those who knew them.

In honoring Jack’s life, his family invites those who knew him to join in celebrating his remarkable journey, a life well-lived and filled with purpose. His memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of his family and friends, and his spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known him.
