Joseph R. Riess, Jr. (age 70) of Vienna, VA, passed away on December 16, 2006, ending his courageous battle against cancer. Loving husband of Judith S. Riess; father of Katherine (Pierre) Irving, Julia (David) Wooten; stepfather of Steven (Kim) Shellnutt, Michael (Nancy) Shellnutt, Timothy (Claudia) Shellnutt, Richard (Tonya) Shellnutt and Mary Elizabeth Sargent; grandfather of 20; brother of Elizabeth Riess and Michael (Judy) Riess. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Mark's Catholic Church, 9970 Vale Rd., Vienna, VA on Friday, December 29, 2006 at 12 p.m. Navy burial at sea. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made to Capital Hospice of Northern Virginia, 6565 Arlington Blvd., Suite 501, Fairfax, VA 22042 or Autism Speaks, 2 Park Ave., 11th Floor, New York, NY 10016, www.autismspeaks.org.
