June Mathews Schoellig, 95, of New Market, Virginia, died July 14 2022, at her daughter’s home in Centreville, Virginia.

June was born July 22, 1926, in Boscobel, Wisconsin to Alva and Kate Mathews. She attended Milwaukee State Teachers College and received her certificate to teach children with special needs. She married John Schoellig, also raised in Boscobel, on July 10, 1948. They lived in Madison, Wisconsin until his graduation from the University of Wisconsin at which time they moved to Falls Church, Virginia in 1950. In addition to being a homemaker all of her married life, June began working for Fairfax County Public Schools in 1970 as a teaching assistant at Graham Road Elementary School for eleven years. In 1990 she and John moved to New Market, Virginia to enjoy their retirement years.

June loved to sew, crochet, and create crewel embroidery pictures for family and friends which were mostly given as wedding, anniversary, and special birthday gifts. She also loved gardening, growing plants and flowers inside and outside her home and had a special knack for flower arranging.

June was predeceased by her husband John, her daughter Jean, and her son Robert. She is survived by daughters Susan Moore (Wayne); her daughter Kathryn Schoellig; her grandson Gregory Moore (Taylor); and her great grandchildren, triplets Finley, Olivia, and Mason Moore.

The family would like to thank her two special caregivers, Elva and Fatima, for their very competent and loving care of June during her last six months of life.

A gravesite service will be held at 11:00 on Wednesday, July 27, 2022 at Columbia Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the charity of your choice.
