Resided in: Centreville, VA

Karen Gizella Johnson, 71, of Centreville, VA, passed away peacefully and surrounded by her family on Wednesday, August 12, 2026. She was the beloved wife of Michael W. Johnson for over 51 years; the loving mother to Michele I. Tracy (James), Christopher M.L. Johnson, Stephen A. Johnson (Amanda); the older sister of Renee J. Komondy; aunt to Kelly Magee; and the BEST Mee-Ma to Courtney, Connor, Taylor, Evan, and Sophia.

A dedicated homemaker, Karen devoted her life to her family.  She was kind, courageous, incredibly funny, and resilient.  She instilled in her children and grandchildren a boundless passion for animals, a gift they will carry throughout their lives.

Her cherished parents, Louis J. Komondy, Jr. and Irene A. Komondy, preceded her in death.

Deeply loved by her family and close friends, Karen maintained relationships across all aspects of her life.  She will be remembered for her strength, kindness to others, humor, and incredible determination when she set her mind to something.  She was the true matriarch of her family, and she proudly proclaimed this often!  Though she will be profoundly missed by those who loved her, Karen’s legacy lives on in the family she spent her life nurturing and in the countless others whose lives she touched.

Visitation will take place on Wednesday, August 19th, 2026, at Money and King Funeral Home, 171 Maple Avenue West, Vienna, VA 22180 from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.  Graveside service and interment will take place on Thursday, August 20th, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at National Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 7482 Lee Highway, Falls Church, VA, 22042.
