Larry Wayne Lauffer of Fairfax, Virginia, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family in his final days.
Born on August 27, 1956, in Madison, West Virginia, Larry carried throughout his life the values of hard work, kindness, faith, and an unwavering devotion to his children and grandchildren.
Larry is lovingly remembered by his three sons, Daniel (Janice), Joey (Dannielle), and Jeremy (Maggie), and by his five cherished grandchildren: Gabrielle, Cara, Emily, Harrison, and Magnolia, who brought him tremendous joy. He is also survived by his brothers, Toney and Peter, along with many beloved extended family members and lifelong friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Lauffer and Lorraine Toney.
Larry was, above all else, a devoted father and grandfather. He loved his three sons unconditionally. Whether offering encouragement, lending a helping hand, or simply being present, Larry would do absolutely anything for his boys. As his family grew, he embraced being “Grandpa” and watching his grandchildren grow and creating special memories with each of them. His greatest legacy is the love, character, faith, and family values he instilled in those who knew him best.
Sports were a lifelong passion for Larry. As a young man, he competed in cross country, baseball, and basketball, and his love of sports never faded. He especially cherished traveling with his sons to baseball stadiums, creating memories that will last forever. One of those moments came on the iconic Field of Dreams in Iowa, where Larry stood alongside all three of his boys and played catch, a simple but unforgettable memory that perfectly captured his love for baseball and fatherhood.
Larry graduated from Oakton High School, where he formed lifelong friendships that remained by his side today. After retirement, Larry found happiness in the slower pace of life in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Many of his favorite days were spent cruising the neighborhood in his golf cart or taking walks. He also had a legendary sweet tooth for ice cream, which brought a smile to everyone who knew him.
Most importantly, Larry was a man of deep and abiding faith. Throughout his life, he was an active member of several churches and found strength, hope, and purpose through his relationship with Jesus Christ, his Lord and Savior. His faith gave him strength and perseverance, which guided him through life’s joys and challenges and remained steadfast until the very end.
Though our hearts are broken, we find peace in knowing that Larry’s faith has become sight and that he is now in the presence of his Savior, reunited with those who have gone before him. His legacy lives on in the family he loved, the friendships he treasured, and the countless lives he touched. We will forever miss his love, his laughter, his guidance, and the example he set for all of us.

Whether we were talking about our favorite pastime together, baseball, discussing the latest game, or sharing memories of seasons past, Larry made every conversation enjoyable. But nothing brought a bigger smile to his face than talking about his children and grandchildren. The pride, love, and joy he had for his family were evident in every story he shared.
Thank you, Larry, for your friendship, your kindness, and the many years of memories. Rest in peace.
I had the true pleasure of working with Larry in the title and settlement services industry for more than 16 years. He was not only responsible for managing the Mid-Atlantic region, but he also handled countless land acquisitions and refinance transactions—many with a level of complexity that very few people could manage. Larry had a way of making even the most complicated transactions look easy, though those of us who worked alongside him knew just how much skill, patience, and knowledge that required. Everyone who had the opportunity to work with Larry appreciated his professionalism, steady presence, and calm confidence in the face of challenges. Time and again, people walked away from working with him with greater knowledge, deeper understanding, and complete confidence that the deal had been done the right way.
I also always enjoyed my conversations with Larry about his family and his great love for baseball. After he retired, it was a joy to talk with him and hear about his travels as he worked toward fulfilling his bucket-list dream of visiting every MLB stadium. Those conversations reflected who Larry was—dedicated, thoughtful, and full of life.
Larry will be deeply missed by all who knew him, worked with him, and had the privilege of calling him a friend.

Very sorry to hear of Larry’s passing. I worked with him for many years and he was always a pleasure and a real mensch. Rest easy.
What a positive and kind classmate Larry was at Oakton high school. The class of 75 will certainly miss him. I don’t remember ever seeing Larry when he didn’t have a smile on his face and something very positive to say. Larry , I see you passed this on to your family, along with your strong faith. Thankfully, this brings comfort in knowing you are in a better place. Rest in peace, my friend.
