Also known as "Pete", of Fairfax, Va, passed away on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at age 91. Born on August 29, 1923 in Waltham, Massachusetts and raised in Belmont. Beloved husband of 67 years to Martha Hoban Holmes. Beloved father of Lawrence Jr., Pamela, Robert (Elaine), David, Gregory and Dorothy (Christopher). Beloved grandfather to ten grandchildren and beloved great-grandfather to eight great-grandchildren. Much loved brother of James, Francis, Claire and William and uncle to numerous nieces and nephews.

As part of a scouting radio communications team, Lawrence served in the Marine Corps in the South Pacific theatre in World War II. He graduated from Belmont High School in 1941, continued his education at Wentworth Institute of Technology and earned a Bachelors Degree from Northeastern University. He worked as a technician at Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Lincoln Laboratory on the Whirlwind computer, which was a forerunner of modern computers. He then left MIT and joined the newly-formed MITRE Corporation, which was an outgrowth of Lincoln Laboratory. He remained at MITRE Corpoation for the remainder of his career, retiring from senior management in 1988.

He was known by all as a kind, gentle, caring, loving soul who was modest and always willing to help other.

Wake to be held at Money & King Funeral Home, 171 West Maple Ave., Vienna, Va., on Friday, June 12th from 5 to 8 PM. Funeral Mass and burial will be in Acton, Mass. at a later date.
