Lester "Ted" Jakobsson
September 15, 1926 ~ June 30, 2022
Lester "Ted" Jakobsson of Vienna, VA passed away peacefully on June 30, 2022 at the age of 95. A native of Richmond, California, Ted was a WWII veteran, serving in the Merchant Marine as a Cadet-Midshipman at the age of 17 and then later enlisting in the U.S. Air Force. Ted received a BA in Geography from the University of California, Berkeley and had a rewarding career as a geographer with both the CIA and then the State Department in Washington, D.C.
Ted traveled the world through his military service, career and in retirement with his wife Donna with destinations in Africa, the Middle East, Asia, Europe, Australia and throughout the U.S. He was an avid reader and he was also artistic and skilled at woodworking, making furniture and decor pieces.
Ted enjoyed having his family close and they will all miss him very much. Ted is survived by his two daughters, Andrea Persinger (John), Kathryn Costner (Steve), and grandchildren Jack, Alexa, Joe and Allison. Ted’s beloved wife Donna died in 2021.
