The family of Maria Dolores Margarita (Lola) Fernandez Lavagnino de Kummerfeldt announces their mother has gone to be with her Heavenly Father. She died peacefully on November 12, 2014. She was the beloved wife of Franz Anton Kummerfeldt Villela, who preceded her in death in 2011. She is survived by her loving children Maria (Thomas), Franz (Brenda), Gisella (Kenneth), Gertrud (Joel), Henry (Sabrina), and fourteen grandchildren. Franz and Lola's beloved daughter, Maria Dolores (Lolita) preceded them in death in 2004.
Lola was a loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was the daughter of Alfonso Fernandez Castaeda and Amalia Lavagnino Azurdia de Fernandez and sister of Rosa, Alfonso, Lucy, and Antonio. She was raised in Guatemala City and educated in Guatemala and the United States. She graduated from the Academy of the Immaculate Conception in Ferdinand, IN, and from the College of St. Rose in Albany, NY. She made many life-long friends. With their faith, she and her devoted husband of 60 years raised a close-knit family. She loved to be surrounded by her family and always had a welcoming home to family and friends, inviting newcomers to the holiday table. She retired from the Inter-American Development Bank. Lola and Franz were lifelong parishioners of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Annandale, VA.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, December 6, 11:00 a.m., at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 5121 Woodland Way, Annandale, VA. Visitation will begin one hour prior to Mass, at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at Fairfax Memorial Park, 9900 Braddock Rd, Fairfax, VA. Memorial donations may be made to the Immaculate Conception Monastery, 802 E. 10th Street, Ferdinand, IN 47532 or to Hermano Pedro Social Works Foundation, P.O. Box 631 Mount Vernon, NY 10551.

Estimada Familia de Lola Kummerfeldt, Lamento la perdida de su ser querido. Que el Dios de todo consuelo este con ustedes en estos tiempos tan difciles. Y que lo que dice Juan 5:28, 29 da ayuda: “Viene la hora en que todos los que estan en las tumbas conmemorativas escucharan su voz y saldran…a una resurreccion”
Mi Mama esta reunida con mi Papa y con Lolita, mas tambin con sus padres y dems familia y otros queridos. Los sacrificios que usted y Papi hicieron para nosotros sus hijos es algo que toda la vida recordaremos con amor y agradecimiento. Se encontraron forzados a comenzar una nueva vida en un pas extranjero, con 6 hijos jovencitos que necesitaban de todo. Nos dieron una juventud tan llena de alegra, de risa, de cario, y las memorias de esos anos es un regalo verdadero. Nos dieron el ejemplo de vidas bien vividas con honor y con integridad. Nos ensearon a vivir una vida de fe en Nuestro Senor. Gracias, Mami. Algn da estaremos todos reunidos.
