Lorna C. Totman

Lorna Totman died on August 10, 2026 at her home in Washington D.C. She is survived by her brother Darrell Totman and his partner Erik Neumann, nephew Matt Totman and his wife Kelsey, niece Alison Furr,  grandnephews Seth and Blake Furr, sister-in-law Jane Totman, and members of the Gallik family. Lorna was born on June 30, 1946 in Alexandria, Virginia and grew up in Oakton, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Dan Gallik and brother Gary Totman. Lorna graduated from William and Mary, then later completed her graduate studies earning a PhD in Pharmacology from George Washington University.  From 1988-2006, she worked at NDMA as the Director of Pharmacology and Consumer Healthcare Products Associates where she served as Acting Vice President of Regulatory and Scientific Affairs. Lorna built a prominent career as a toxicologist and regulatory scientist focusing on advocating for rigorous science in federal drug policies and ensuring transparency reform through her expert testimonies.  Later, she went on to found and run Lorna Totman Consulting LLC to continue her advocacy.  Throughout her life, she sustained an impressive career as she achieved many accomplishments.  After retiring, she dedicated much of her time to volunteering at Haven of Northern Virginia, a non-profit community organization. There, Lorna was a notable counselor and facilitator who offered support, comfort, and education to those who needed it and their family and friends. In addition to community service, Lorna was also an active member of Encore Chorale Washington DC as she enjoyed performing at concerts and traveling with the group. She also truly loved spending time with her life long friends and family members who will always remember Lorna for her unique giraffe collection and love of music.  A celebration of Lorna Totman’s life is planned for a later date.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Lorna’s honor may be made to  Haven of Northern Virginia by visiting their website at havenofnova.org
