Lorraine Alice Derbish passed away quietly on Thursday, May 22, 2014. A resident of Greensburg, Springfield VA since 2008, Lorraine was born in Hammond, IN on June 20, 1920, the eldest of six children of Leo Ira Vieau and Alice Berg Vieau. She was predeceased by her parents, four siblings, her husband of 59 years, Victor R. Derbish and son, Victor A. Derbish. She is survived by her daughter, Diana D. Lueker, Fairfax, VA and son, John L. Derbish, Oregon City, OR; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren: Christine Lueker, Springfield, VA; John Lueker, Lorton, VA; Thomas Lueker (Mary) (Dana and Deke), Willamsburg, VA; Catherine Pollitt (Ian) (Elanor and Nathaniel), St. Johns, FL; Mark Derbish (Donna) (Kyle and Tyler), San Bernadino, CA; Scott Derbish, Ontario, CA; Todd Derbish (Tina) (Brendan and Brenna), St. Gabriel, CA; Thomas Derbish, Oregon City, OR; and Mary Widdick (Martin) (Sebastain), Champagne, IL. Lorraine was a "late bloomer". She married young, raised her family, and at 40, started college, a goal unattainable for her during the Depression era. She graduated from the University of California with honors in 1964 and began a teaching career which she loved. She is still fondly remembered by many whom she taught in Ontario, California. After retiring in 1985, she continued to teach as a volunteer reading specialist until the age of 87. A very bright, traveling, and crafts of all kinds. Memorial service will be held on 14 June at Greenspring Chapel. A service in Ontario, California will be held at a later date.
