Louise Marie Herrmann Lunn was born August 1, 1927, in Spring Valley, Illinois to Felicia (Piotrowski) and John Herrmann. She passed away in the early morning of May 4, 2024, at 96 years old. She lived a full and vibrant life from her early days in Spring Valley to her peaceful rest in Crozet, Virginia. She is a graduate of Hall High School.
She met her husband Robert (Bob) J Lunn at Hall High School and the two began courting while Bob was on leave from West Point. They married in 1951 shortly after Bob graduated and enjoyed 61 years together. Lou was a dedicated military spouse who travelled the world with her family, having children in Japan, England, and Germany. Even with Bob’s military obligations, the couple frequently returned to their hometown and loved their Spring Valley roots. Bob and Lou continued their love of travel after Bob retired from the military, visiting Texas multiple times a year to see their children, grandchildren, and eventually great grandchildren, navigating Bob’s driving from the passenger seat. She loved volunteering at the Fort Myers thrift shop, the Surratt House, and Wolf Trap and continued to do so throughout her tenure in Vienna, Virginia.
Lou was a talented seamstress and cook who loved hosting guests in her homes across the globe including her Vienna Supper Club. She loved collecting and her home was decorated with treasures from far and wide. Before Bob passed away, the two enjoyed walking the mall at Tyson’s Corner and exploring Meadowlark Botanical Gardens. They also attended West Point class of 1950 reunions and stayed in touch with Bob’s classmates.
Lou enjoyed playing bridge with friends and family including teaching the next generation her favorite card games. She loved going to new restaurants and trying a variety of cuisines, but she always loved cracking crabs, drinking beer with German wurst, and splitting sandwiches at the Old Brogue. Throughout her life she kept a sharp eye on her favorite football teams: the West Point Black Knights and the Washington Commanders. More recently she enjoyed socializing with new friends at the Lodge at Old Trail and three way calls with her son from Texas and brother, Jerry. Lou is survived by her brother, Jerry Herrmann of LaSalle; her children, Robin, Bob, and Sean; daughters-in-law, Pat and Abby; grandchildren, Sara (and husband, Jacob), Marcella, Casey, Mason, Parker, and Callie; great grandchildren, Drake and Wyatt; and many loved extended family members in Illinois Valley and lifelong friends. Lou was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lunn; parents; older brothers, Gilbert, James, and younger brother, Ed; and nephew James Herrmann Jr.
Interment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

Jane and I didn’t meet Bob and Lou until we moved into their neighborhood, after Bob had retired. What a great couple. Always fun to be with. We miss them both. Our deepest sympathies and prayers for the family, but know that you can celebrate a life well lived. Lou had a positive impact on everyone she met and we will miss her.
