Guestbook

  1. I (Ben) first met Dave in 1995, when I got back into amateur shortwave radio after 30 years. Dave was a role model for “DXing”, the sport of contacting countries all over the world: he did it with intensity, discipline, and cheerful good humor. Every December he and Marlene graciously hosted the meeting of the NCDXA, National Capital DX Association, and were role models for us in that, also. It was always great fun sharing stories with Dave about tech work in our different parts of the defense bureaucracy. I shall miss him terribly. No more will his fast expert morse code or that baritone command voice flash out on short wave to literally every place on earth.

  2. Dave, Marlene, Marlene’s Mom, and Susan were always gracious and generous to their guests, myself included, especially–but not exclusively–during the Christmas holidays. This is to express my heartfelt condolences to Dave’s family on their unexpected loss. God rest his soul!

  3. Happy birthday, big brother — I remember the long-ago times when a birthday would have brought you a new model ship to assemble, a stack of Landmark books, or a wood-burning kit to lend its unique aroma to the house — and, of course, a birthday cake lovingly made by Mom. How I will miss your presence on this earth! Your sister, Leslie

  4. Dear Marlene, Susan, and family, We will so miss David’s presence in our neighborhood–always there with a hello and smile. David had a such a generous spirit, ready to pitch in and help us all. Our prayers are with you. God’s peace be with you. Love, Bill and Chris Ostendorff
