So sorry to har of “Aunt Lula’s” passing. I have fond memories of when she and Uncle Andy used to visit my Granny and Gramps (Jesse Wood) when they lived in Calhoun, Ga. May The Holy One, Blessed be He, comfort all that mourn on this day.
Lula was first cousin to my grandmother, Edna Leard Dooly. I so much enjoyed Lula and Andy, especially their wonderful sense of humor and intelligence. They traveled to Germany to spend a couple of weeks with my husband and me in the early ’80s, and we had the best time with them. I remember that we were leaving Garmisch-Partenkirchen (in Bavaria) one morning to travel to Berchtesgaden, and Lula had disappeared without telling anyone where she was going. We loaded the luggage into the car and started driving around the village to look for her. After about 15 minutes, we were really starting to get worried…when we suddenly saw Lula coming out of a little shop carrying packages in her arms. She was doing her shopping and thought she would be back to the hotel before we knew she was gone. We were getting close to reporting her missing to the Polizei! They were always two of my favorite people, and the world is a sadder place without them. I had not been able to get in touch with Lula the last few years and wondered if she had died. I used to talk to her weekly, until she became too ill to enjoy phone calls. I loved Lula and Andy and know that the rest of her family loved them and miss them, as well.
