MAI ESTELLE COLLINS, 90, of Falls Church, Va., formerly of Memphis, homemaker and retired costume designer, died Thursday at her home in Falls Church, Va. She attended Louisiana State University but was very proud of graduating at age 62, from University of Memphis. She was an actress in local community theater, a costume designer, a realtor, and mother of two children. She was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority, Le Bonheur Club of Memphis, and Osiris for the Secret Society of the Memphis Cotton Carnival. She was preceded in death by her parents William Burrows & Nettie Lee Nelson, and two brothers William Burrows Nelson, Jr. and Horace Wells Nelson, all of Memphis. Mrs. Collins was the widow of Hamner F. Collins, Jr., leaves a daughter Barbara Collins Parks of McLean, VA., a son Hamner F. Collins III of Atlanta, a sister-in-law, Mary Stacy Mehaffey of Germantown, TN, grandchildren Jenny Parks, Melissa Parks, Hunter Collins, and Jack Collins, and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be on September 25 at 2 PM, at Lewinsville Presbyterian Church in McLean, where she was a member, with burial in the church cemetery. The family requests that memorials be sent to Germantown Community Theater, in Germantown, TN.
