MANUEL RAPOPORT

Of McLean, Va., passed away December 23, 2014, after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family and close friends.

Manuel was born November 1, 1948 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, the son of Manuel and Maria Emilia Rapoport. He moved to the United States with his family at the age of 13 and attended Langley High School and The American University. Shortly after completing graduate studies, he was employed by the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB), where he worked for 37 years in development financing to Latin America and the Caribbean, and culminated his distinguished career as Vice-President of Finance and Administration prior to his retirement.

Manuel enjoyed spending time in Rehoboth Beach, traveling to Argentina and above all, appreciated being with family and friends. He was extremely popular and well-loved, and everyone enjoyed being in his company. He was fun-loving, a great story-teller, and was always the life of the party. More than anything, he loved to laugh.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Anne Reams Rapoport, and is survived by his second wife, Belinda Fonseca-Rapoport. Surviving him also are his daughter, Emily Oveissi (Amir), his granddaughters Leila Anne, Eva Soraya, and Ariana Feri Oveissi, and his stepdaughters, Viveka and Lourdes Galindez. Manuel's surviving sister is Maria Emilia ("Sheena") Rapoport Sims (Rick), and his surviving nieces are Jennifer Emilia Adkins (Rob) and Casandra Sims Nied (Tim) and their four children. He is also survived by relatives in Argentina.

Per his wishes, Manuel was cremated and funeral services will be private. Family will receive friends at the Money & King Funeral Home in Vienna, Virginia on Monday December 29th from 6:30 8:30 PM. A Celebration of Life service for staff and former colleagues of the IADB will be held at a later date to be announced.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in honor of Manuel Rapoport to Biliary Atresia Research at Johns Hopkins Hospital, in support of his beloved little granddaughter. The link is: https://secure.jhu.edu/form/pedliver (select "Other" and type "Biliary Atresia Research.")

Manuel was a very strong presence in the lives of his family, his many friends and co-workers. He was deeply cherished and will be very greatly missed.
