Margaret B. Tatusko

margaret tatusko

Margaret Bading Tatusko passed away peacefully on May 20, 2026 at her home. Born in Bonn, Germany on December 27, 1937, Margaret came to America aboard the SS United States in January of 1962 for a yearlong adventure. The Kennedy years were a draw and Washington, DC seemed the place to be. She met Stephen Tatusko at the Old Europe in Georgetown and the rest, as they say, is history. The family of four lived in Vienna, VA where Margaret raised their two children. Eventually she took a job at The Italian Gourmet before settling in at The Container Store Tysons Corner for over 25 years where more than a few customers often asked for “the nice German lady” to assist them. Many of these regulars became good friends inviting her to coffee and lunch outings. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Steve and is survived by her children Kristina Tatusko Henry and husband Mike Henry of Easton, MD, her son Stephen Tatusko and wife Lorena of Great Falls, VA, three grandchildren Allegra Tatusko Euler and husband Lukas Euler of Scottsdale, AZ, Konradt Tatusko of Sterling, VA and Saskia Tatusko of Great Falls, VA and a sister Elsbeth Klose-Bading of Bonn, Germany as well as numerous family and friends on both sides of the Atlantic. Margaret will be remembered for her outgoing personality, her beautiful knitting, her delicious cooking, and mostly for her kind and generous spirit. She loved knowing you all and has enjoyed this ride together. There will be a private burial service with family. Thank you for being a part of our lives, auf Wiedersehen.

Guestbook

  1. My thoughts and prayers are with you, Kristina and Mike, and all the Tatusko family. Be at peace, dear Margaret.
    Love, Maya

    • Margaret was my second mom. I always asked her for advice and she encouraged me with everything. She was so caring and independant and dear lord, her corn beef hash wasn’t just a meal. It was a taste of home and will never forget the love she put into making it pure magic. She will be greatly missed.

  2. A wonderful mother and very artistic knitter.
She will be missed .. with deepest sympathy
    P. Ballantine

  3. So sorry to hear the news of your mother’s passing. Sending condolences and prayers to you and your family.

  4. Auch die Verwandschaft aus Sueddeutschland trauert mit Euch und behaelt Margaret in liebevoller Erinnerung. Gott gebe ihr die ewige Ruhe.

  5. After i came back from Germany and started working at the Container Store, i would try to talk with her in the limited German i knew , and we would trade sayings during some of the longest work days we had, i still her say ” cursing like a sailor”. She was a true mentor, and someone who was one of the “boys” when it came matching wits with me or some of her “spicy” customers. She will be missed with many broken hearts. Meine shotzey.

  6. So sorry for your loss Kristina. You look so much like your Mom! Just don’t forget your earrings. Hugs to you and Mike
