Margaret Marie Schwartz

Margaret M. Schwartz of Alexandria, 97 years old, died on August 19, 2015, in Fairfax, Virginia. Born Margaret Mottillo in Meadville, PA on February 24, 1918, she moved to the Washington area in the late 1940s, where she worked in several law firms, eventually landing at Arnold & Porter, where she worked until her retirement in 1997. She lived in Alexandria, Virginia for over 60 years. Marge, as she was known to family, was a devoted and loving mother right up to the end of her life. She loved nothing more than being with her family, enjoying her flower garden, and partaking of a good Italian meal (with beer). She will be greatly missed.
Margaret is survived by her two daughters, Carol Nees, of Ashburn, Virginia, and Paula Schwartz, of Middlebury, Vermont. She also leaves behind her son-in-law, Randy Nees; sister Gertrude Rhedmon, of Arlington, and brother Joseph Mottillo of Riverview, Michigan. Among her numerous surviving nieces and nephews are Maggie and Robin Goldenberg, Jonathan Goldenberg, and Lori Smith, of McLean, VA; David and Gretchen Rhedmon, and Thomas Rhedmon, of Alexandria; Susan Rhedmon, of Eugene, Oregon; and Mary Jane Mastorovich, of Falls Church, VA. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Morey, in 1969; her parents, Dominic and Marie Mottillo, of Meadville, PA.; and five brothers and sisters: Christine Mottillo Valchef, Angeline Mottillo Limber, Anthony Mottillo, John Mottillo, and Marie Mottillo Weir.
The family will be receiving friends and relatives on Sunday, August 23, from 3-5 p.m., at Money and King Funeral Home, 171 West Maple Avenue, Vienna, Virginia. On Monday, August 24, at 10:30 a.m., a funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, 8601 Wolftrap Road, also in Vienna. A memorial service at The Virginian in Fairfax, where Margaret lived for the past four years, will be held at a date yet to be announced.

Our condolences for your loss. Your mother was a radiant and wonderful lady, always at the ready with an encouraging word and comforting advice. The ending of life seems sad, but I have faith that your mom is on a wondrous journey. Hers was a good and blessed life and the happiness and joy that she brought to this world will live on in the memory of all who knew and loved her.
