Marie-Louise Elbert

Marie-Louise Elbert, 94, a longtime resident of Riverdale, New York, died November 18, 2013 at the Tall Oaks Assisted Living community in Reston, Virginia. Marie-Louise Gutman was born to Herbert and Alice Gutman in Stuttgart, Germany and lived during her youth in Frankfurt, where her father was Director of the Frankfurt Branch of Commerzebank. With her family, she immigrated to the United States in 1937, settled in New York City, and became a U.S. citizen. She married George A. Elbert of New Rochelle, New York in 1940, with whom she had two children, and was divorced in 1952. She worked for many years as a histologist at Montefiore Medical Center and then Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, New York. She relocated to Virginia in 2003 to be near her daughter. She is survived by her daughter, Suzanne Rothwell of Vienna, Virginia, her grandson, Greyson David Rothwell of Wellington, New Zealand and her nephews, Peter and Thomas Gutman, Her son, George Steven Elbert was killed in action to Vietnam in 1968.
