Marjorie Cambern Latimer
July 23, 1937 ~ May 27, 2026
Marjorie was born in Safford, Arizona to Fern Ellsworth Cambern and Clarence Lee Cambern. She grew up on a cattle ranch in the White Mountains of Arizona, surrounded by towering pine trees, wildflowers, and mountain peaks. She loved her brothers and sisters, and spent long hours exploring the wilderness with them. Living in the mountains during the Great Depression, they survived without electricity, plumbing, or refrigeration.
She attended Arizona State University, where she learned to be a secretary. She later worked in New York City, Phoenix, Istanbul, and Washington, D.C.. While in Washington in 1966, she met Henry B. Latimer, affectionately called “Herk” by his friends. Herk was a recently divorced father of four sons, Richard, Randolph, Christian, and Clarke. She fell in love with Herk and his boys.
Marjorie married Herk in 1968. They raised three children: Rebecca, Henry, and Caroline in Northern Virginia. She was a dedicated mother who taught her children to read books, identify birds, and wade in creeks. She sacrificed a great deal raising Caroline, who has many disabilities. Marjorie also served many years in the Primary and Relief Society of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In addition, she volunteered as a Cub Scout leader, a Girl Scout leader, and a PTA board member at Kilmer Center school for the disabled. She died peacefully, surrounded by family, after a brief illness.
Marjorie is survived by her siblings Kelly Cambern, Lee Wayne Cambern, and Virginia Pattison; step-children Richard Latimer (Dixie), Randolph Latimer (Cindy), Christian Latimer (Leslie), Clarke Latimer (Kevin); children Rebecca Jamison (Eric), Henry Latimer (Tina), and Caroline Latimer; as well as by fourteen grandchildren.
