Marjory "Marge" Reeder
December 29, 1927 ~ March 8, 2021
Marjory Clutter Stewart was born on December 29, 1927 in Mannington, WV. Marge was one of four children born to her parents, Paul and Lucille (Clutter) Stewart.
As a young girl, Margie was a tomboy, spending much of her time swimming. She loved to dance to big band music. Some of her favorite artists were Mel Torme, Sara Vaughn, and Ella Fitzgerald. In 1945, Marge graduated from Shinnston High School, and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
In 1944, while working at Candyland, Margie met college student Bernie Reeder. They fell in love, and after a long courtship, Margie and Bernie were married on January 31, 1952. They did not delay having a family, however. Paula Marie Reeder (Rankin) was born that September, to be followed by Annette Cecile Reeder in December 1953, and Laura Louise Reeder (Toregas) in April 1955.
The Reeder clan grew so much almost overnight, and Marge and Bernie decided to find a new home for their family to plant their roots. In 1955, Bernie moved to Arlington, VA, and he found an apartment for the family and employment with the Postal Service working at National Airport. Marge and the girls followed, and in 1959, the Reeders moved into their new home in Vienna, VA. Ivan Alec Reeder was born to the Reeder family in May 1963, and Elaine Celeste Reeder followed in July 1966 to complete the family.
When Marge was not working at Melpar or Giant Food, she enjoyed bowling with her husband and daughters. She and Bernie also enjoyed attending West Virginia Mountaineers football games as season ticket holders, and later enjoyed following their grandson’s -- Wyatt Reeder Toregas’ -- aspirations on the baseball field and granddaughter’s -- Nancy Elizabeth Toregas’ -- interests in music, art, and dance.
Marge left us and this earth on March 8, 2021, at the age of 93. She left us with so many fond memories, many of which the family has shared in recent weeks with laughter and tears. She was, first and foremost, a wife, a mother, and a grandmother, and continues to be an example to all of us in how to live a family-centered life with integrity and humor. She is preceded in passing by her husband, Bernard Paul Reeder; her sisters Mary Lou Wilson and Laura June Davis; and her son, Ivan Alec Reeder. She is survived by brother Sample Houston Stewart (Roxana); daughters Paula, Annette, Laura (Bill), and Elaine; grandchildren Wyatt (Holly) Toregas and Nancy Elizabeth Toregas; and great-grandchildren Alex and Ava Toregas.
