GREGORY
Marlene F. Gregory (Age 80)
Marlene Faye (Foreman) Gregory, of Vienna VA, passed away on October 7.
She was born June 12, 1935 in Ford City PA to Marlin F. Foreman and Mary (Fitzgerald) Foreman. She graduated from Ford City High School in 1953, and earned a degree in Education from Grove City College (PA) in 1957. She taught middle school in Kittanning (PA) until 1960, when she married and moved to Arlington VA. She started teaching mathematics at Longfellow Intermediate School in McLean VA when that school opened in 1960. After teaching for several years she became a homemaker and raised two daughters. She returned to teaching in the same school in 1980 and taught middle school until her retirement from the Fairfax Country Public School System in 1993. In the 1980s, Mrs. Gregory was one of very few teachers selected to participate in the first merit pay program instituted in the schools of Fairfax County.
Mrs. Gregory was a devoted bridge fan and belonged to several bridge groups and she also enjoyed sewing, reading, and cooking. She was a member of the Fairfax County Retired Educators, the McLean Republican Women's Club, and several book clubs, but most of all she enjoyed the accompaniment of her grandchildren.
Mrs. Gregory was an only child and is survived by her husband, Joseph F. Gregory, also originally from Ford City, PA, whom she married in 1960; two daughters, Susan J. Bowlin (Tom) of North Canton OH, and Laurie K. Mayer (Bryan) of Warrenton VA; and six grandchildren: Amanda and Kellar Bowlin; and Brandon, Justin, Rylee, and Carson Mayer. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm at Money and King Funeral Home in Vienna, VA, with a brief memorial service at 7:30pm. A private burial will be at Lawn Haven Burial Estates in Worthington PA at a later date.

I was so saddened to hear of Marlene’s passing. I played in several Fairfax Retired Educators bridge groups with her. She was such a kind and gentle person. Marlene loved talking about her children and grandchildren and the good times she had with them. My sincere condolences to her family.

Dear Joe and Family, with deepest sympathy to you all. You will surely miss your beloved wife, mom, and grandma. In addition to having a meaningful career helping young people, Marlene raised a beautiful family! I happen to know she was an excellent cook, too. So sad I cannot be there for her Services, but I will hold you all in my heart. Warmly, Sharman

Dear Joe, Susan and Laurie Our deepest sympathy to you and your families. We were very saddened by the passing of Marlene. She was a wonderful neighbor and friend for many, many years and will truly be missed. May God give you strength during this most difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you.
As a retired principal at Longfellow Middle School, I remember Marlene fondly. Truly one of the nicest people I ever had the pleasure to know and work with. I remember telling her just that one day, and it made her cry; but it was so true…Marlene was simply a very special person with a big heart. While I am sad for your loss, I look back at the thousands of kids she did so much for and her colleagues who adored her.
