Mary E. Gwinnup

mary gwinnup
Mary was born to John and Helen Katsaba on May 30th, 1949 near Wilkes-Barre, PA, Mary was raised in Kingston, PA, a tiny town with a population of less than 21, 000 as of 1940. There she grew up with her kid sister, Nancy. Following high school, she began her career in Human Resources with the federal government at the Tobyhanna Army Depot in Tobyhanna, PA. 40+ years later and post retirement, she was still helping people to find work. Most recently, Mary was one of a select few that were brought in to help the employees of closing Army bases find new careers.

Outside of work, Mary had a number of interests. A five minute conversation (which she was liable to have with any and everybody, being a personable kind of lady) taught you that she was a die-hard sports fan. From the Orioles to the Capitals, she loved to spend hours on end watching games and rooting for the home team, especially he loved Redskins (though really, so long as the Cowboys lost, she had a smile on her face.) Her musical tastes varied from Opera to Bluegrass. Her favorite movie was Moonstruck and her favorite many needy 'children with fur" with a loving home.

Mary passed away peacefully on June 1st , 2013, surrounded by family and friends. A truly unforgettable woman, Mary Gwinnup left an indelible impression on everyone she met and not just because of her bright pink outfits. She is survived by her sister Nancy, her daughter Katherine and dozens and dozens of friends all whom will miss and remember her always.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Friends of Homeless Animals, a no-kill animal shelter where Mary adopted many of her beloved pets over the years: www.foha.org
