Mary F. Bialick
August 5, 1923 ~ April 4, 2012
Mary Estelle Fitzgerald Bialick left us on Wednesday, April 4, 2012. She was born in Sharon, Pennsylvania on August 5, 1923. Mary attended college at Mercyhurst College in Erie, PA. She then went on to the University of Pittsburgh where she trained to be an occupational therapist. She worked rehabilitating injured soldiers returning from WWII. At Pitt she met her future husband, Irving Bialick. Mary and Irv were married for 59 years. Irv affectionately referred to his Irish Rose as "Fitz". They had 5 children; Rick, Lisa, Jerry, Maggie, and Bill.
Mary spent many years raising the children in Southern California and later in Northern Virginia. Mary loved California, the beach, and the lifestyle. The old Clairol commercial, "If I have only one life to live, let me live it as a blonde" applied to Mary. She enjoyed the company of others, cooking, and crafts. She had an incredible talent for leather work, macram, and cross-stitch. She won numerous competitions at local fairs for her amazing cross-stitch work. With five kids to raise, she was always going to a scout meeting, a PTA meeting, or to the pool.
"Fitz" will join her husband and her two brothers in heaven. She leaves behind her five children, ten grand children and one great-grandson. So put on some old Bing Crosby or Chet Atkins and tip your glass to our sweet mother, Mary Bialick.

My deepest sympathies to all of you in the passing of your dear mother, grandmother. As always I will have her in my heart and my prayers. Mary Estelle meant a lot to me, her kindness, caring and love made my hard times adjusting to my new family much easier. Knowing Mary and Irv was a beautiful blessing in my life, I will forever be grateful to their kindness. The Lord has a beautiful place in Heaven for her next to her brothers. Love you Mary Estelle.
We are so sad to hear of Mary’s passing. Every Sunday, we looked forward to seeing her at our Bingo games, and it just won’t be the same at the Virginian without her. Mary was so kind and just so darn fun! Our thoughts are with Mary’s family and friends at this time.
I was very sad to hear of Mary’s passing. I have so many great memories of both Irv and Mary. Irv for his way of making me feel like he was interested in everything I had to say, and Mary for her infectious laugh. Nobody had a bigger laugh than Mary did. She always had a smile on her face and a light in her eyes. I enjoyed the time spent at their house and the way that they made me feel like family. You had very special parents and I hope you know that they both hold a very special place in my heart.
Read about Mary’s passing in the Wash Post and wanted to extend our condolences to her family. Jim worked with Irv many, many years ago. We enjoyed get togethers at the house in Vienna and Irv’s proud display of his trains. We had them to our home for a GERMAN dinner one evening and they just loved the Spaetzle so much so we had a spaetzle maker sent from Germany for them. Mary was so thrilled to be able to make spaetzle herself for her darling Irv!!
I was so sorry and shocked to hear of your mother’s passing. In the short time I knew her at The Virginian she was sweet, kind and always had a smile. Please be assured of my prayers for you all. You all impressed me very much with the care you gave her the last time we were together. God bless all of you . Kate Bailey, Fairfax, Va.
With Love for Mary Bialick Margaret, Lisa and family, A wave of sadness washed over us as we received the news about your mother’s passing. Mom and Carol and I stood in our kitchen together here in Woodland Hills, feeling the loss and yet the joy of a person who touched our lives in such special ways. I remember Mrs. Bialick as one heckuva Girl Scout leader and one of our best buddy’s wonderful Mom. We spent hours hanging out together at each other’s homes, Margaret, playing as carefree as children can, only when they have the security of such solid parents like ours. I remember your Mom as the anchor of the house, standing in the kitchen drying off dishes, with her sweet smile and open heart. Such a kind spirit that really saw us and genuinely cared about us. I know she made so many people feel that way. And a fine Girl Scout Leader! I remember standing on the hearth of your fireplace receiving my badges at an awards ceremony! She was a good organizer and made Junior Girl Scouts such a fun experience . She and Mom and Mrs. LeSarge took us all to Wakonda, what a blast that was! Long live Alta Sierra where we looked up to the seniors like you, Lisa, looking forward to when we would be camp counselors too. We honor the wonderful life of Mary Bialick. I’m so grateful for all she is and has brought into everyone’s lives. We thank God for her life so well lived and I look forward to seeing her again on the other side where she’ll meet me with that kind smile and hopefully hand me one more badge for making it that far. What a joy that will be. Our love to all of you as you walk through this time of grief. Callie
Margaret, Lisa, Bill, Jerry, and Rick, Though it wasn’t untimely, we were still somehow a little stunned to hear of your Mom’s passing. I guess that’s what happens when a soul that has had such a great impact on your life leaves this world and goes to the next. She was a grand lady in every respect of the word. Cal and I remember the many fun hours we spent with you, Margaret, hanging out at your house on Tiara Street. We have such fond memories of that. And Lisa, we always looked up to you (literally and figuratively!) and still do. We can see your Mom, in the kitchen, announcing happily as we all trooped in, “Here comes the Lady’s Aid!” Her warm smile and wry wit always made us feel so welcome and loved. She was the best Girl Scout Leader ever. But far more than that, due to her character, dignity, and compassion, she was a hero to us. I’m hoping her great faith will pull us all through so we can join her again in the kitchen of heaven! Warmest regards, Carol Shively
