Of Oakton, Virginia, died on Thursday, March 20, 2014 at Sunrise of Hunter Mill. Beloved wife of 66 years to James L. Vining; devoted mother of Varina Simmons, Matthew Vining (Nancy), Amy Whittington (Tom), and Bonnie Vining; sister of Dorothy Bankston (Al), Betty Smith (Perry), Aline Trainers (Bob), Harry Hodges (Betty), Linda Bigner (Warren) and Ted Hodges (Julia); cherished grandmother of Amanda Janitzky (Nick), Rita Mudawar (Mike), Jimmy Simmons, James Vining, Alexandra Whittington; great-grandmother of Dmitri Janitzky and Samantha Mudawar. Mary is also survived by several brothers and sister-in-laws. She is preceded in death by her parents, Louis B. and Ethel H. Hodges.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Vienna Baptist Church or the Alzheimer's Association.

Bonnie. I am so sorry to hear that your mom passed away. Alzheimer’s is a long, difficult journey and not one you travel alone. Hers was a sweet and gentle soul, much like your own. She loved you all and clung to life as long as she could. May you find peace in the difficult days ahead. I know how it feels to lose a parent. My heart hurts for you and your family. Thinking of you.
