Mary R. Jones, 88, of McLean, Virginia, joined her Father on December 17, 2022. She was the 6th of 7 children born to Earl Sidney Reames and Frances Lee Poole Reames in Gainesville, Florida. She is survived by her children, David (Donna) Jones of Schenevus, NY; Jennifer Jones (Juan Villar) of McLean, VA; and Rebecca Gutierrez of Aiken, SC; five granddaughters; six great-grandchildren; brother William Sidney Reames, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded by her parents; siblings Earl Mitchell, John Poole, Elizabeth, Isabell, and Ann; and daughter Melanie Louise Jones.
Mary married Joseph Jones in 1953 and started their family in Palmetto, Florida. She worked for the Florida Telephone Co. for several years until deciding to become a homemaker to take care of their growing family. In the 1970’s, they moved the family to Oneonta, NY where they renovated an old farmhouse and raised their children in a country lifestyle caring for a large garden and many animals. She loved nature and was active in the local Audubon society, frequently participating in birdwatching walks. Mary also loved to travel and looked forward to exploring new places or visiting friends and family in far-away locations. Earlier this year she attended the 70th Manatee High School class reunion with her brother and niece.
Mary was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ, Scientist and served as a reader in the church in Oneonta. Once her children had left home, she took on a new career as a Christian Science nurse working in Pinellas Park, Fla. Her training took her to many new places in the US which she greatly enjoyed.
Later in life she lived in Roswell, New Mexico with her daughter and for the past ten years with family in McLean, VA. She was greatly loved by the staff and friends at the Lewinsville Adult Day Care Center in McLean and was known for her sweet smile and kind nature.
A memorial service and burial will take place on Sunday, January 15 at 1:00 pm at Skyway Memorial Gardens in Palmetto, Florida. The service will also be broadcast online if possible.
