Mavis Claudette James
August 6, 1939 ~ March 11, 2026
Mavis Claudette Somerset James, also known as Mama to the family, was born to Williams and Clarice Somerset on August 6, 1939 in Sav La Mar Jamaica. With an 8th grade education Mama made a living by being a seamstress and loved teaching children life skills along with reading her bible. Mama was a holy woman who carried her faith in her heart and passed it along to her family.
Married to Clarence James, Mama had 9 children and 5 step children who she never stopped loving. Her children then went on to give her 19 grandchildren, followed by 7 great grandchildren. In 1999, Mama migrated to America and helped raise these grandchildren to which she provided them with the same love and spirituality as she did her own children. Mama left two behind two brothers, Devon and Michael, and a lot of nieces and nephews. Mama was a woman who always put God and family first and had a habit of spreading love and wisdom to whoever she met. May her soul rest in peace and her love stay within her family and friends memories.
