Maynard Oswald Kidwell (96) a lifelong resident of McLean, VA passed away peacefully at The Virginian Retirement Community in Fairfax, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Helen Louise Kidwell and by his grandson, Scott Kidwell. Maynard is survived by his sons Lynn Kidwell (wife Nance) of McLean, VA and Jeffrey Kidwell (wife Mary) of Vienna, VA and by grandsons Jason, Grant, and Jordan Kidwell.

Maynard was born October 17, 1918, the son of Ethel Grace (Abe) Kidwell and Lawrence Lester Kidwell of McLean, Va. He (along with his future wife) graduated from McLean High School in 1936 which at that time occupied the present location of Franklin Sherman Elementary School. He graduated with a BS degree in Aerospace Engineering from Catholic University, Washington, DC. Maynard married his high school sweetheart, Helen on June 1, 1942 at Lewinsville Presbyterian Church, McLean, VA.

Maynard served in the Navy during WWII. After the war, he returned to McLean and worked as a civilian for over 30 years with the US Department of Navy in various capacities until his retirement.

A memorial service will be held at Lewinsville Presbyterian Church, 1724 Chain Bridge Rd, McLean VA 22101 on Thursday September 10, 2015 at 2:30 PM with an interment following in the church cemetery. A reception will follow immediately afterward at the church

  3. Mr. Kidwell was a delightful person to be around and had a wonderful sense of humor. He never had his devotional far from his side, and his commitment to his Christian faith was encouraging and inspirational. He will be missed.
