Michael David Catey

Michael David Catey passed away suddenly at home on April 23, 2026. Mike was the youngest
child of David Leroy and Marylyn Shirley Catey. As his acquaintances know, Mike was a giving
person who enjoyed the company of friends and family. Mike spent many years as a caregiver,
first to our grandmother and more recently to our mother, as their health declined. Mike was
generous to a fault and would do anything he could in his power to help anyone who asked him
for assistance.

In a family of introverts, Mike stood out for his joy in connecting with others. He had a wry sense of humor and loved to joke and laugh heartily at our jokes. Mike did not want his death to be a moment of grief and sadness, but rather exhorted us to celebrate his life, instead of mourn his death. Easier said than done when considering the young age at which we lost him.

Like everyone, Mike had his struggles, but he drew strength from the love and support of family and a circle of extremely close friends. He was never one to complain, even as his health declined over the last few years.

Mike never married, but he would have made a loving and supportive husband and father, if he
had. He was extremely close to his niece, Morgan, and would often help her work through
problems that were troubling her. Some of Morgan’s fondest memories of Mike are of simply
sitting next to him and spending time together as he played his video games. Mike loved
animals, too, and always had a small “pride” of cats for his pets. He also had a loving bond with his roommate’s dog. Another example of the love and care that Mike expressed.

Mike is survived by his brother, Eric, his sister-in-law, Cathy, his sister, Teresa, his niece
Morgan, and his nephew, Brian, in addition to his very good friends. We miss him deeply.
