Michael Scott
October 11, 1930 ~ June 27, 2023
Michael Scott of McLean, Virginia, died peacefully in his sleep. He grew up in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York with his late sister Julia (Scott) Maser and his parents Dorothy (Chandler) and Irvin Leslie Scott, all architectural graduates of Cornell University. Mr. Scott also received his undergraduate degree from Cornell University in 1952, after which he was commissioned and served for three years on a destroyer, the USS Lyman K. Swenson (DD-729), in the U. S. Pacific Fleet. He attended the University of Michigan law school from 1955 to 1958 where he served as a law review editor. After he gained his law degree, he engaged in post graduate study in Geneva, Switzerland on a Ford Foundation grant. Mr. Scott then affiliated with the law firm of Squire Sanders, and Dempsey from 1959 to 1993, first in Cleveland, Ohio, and then, until his retirement from the firm, in Washington D.C. From 1993 until 2004, he was Counsel and Director of Governmental Affairs for the American Society of Anesthesiologists, a national professional medical association. Following his retirement from that position, he was active for the rest of his life with the McLean Community Players, an amateur theatrical group, performing principally at the Alden Theater in McLean, producing several shows and, from 2007 to 2011, serving as its president or board chairman. Thereafter, he was employed until shortly before his death as an officer and director of EagleEye Radiology, a company located in Sterling, Virginia that provided teleradiology services to hospitals and radiology groups throughout the country. Mr. Scott is survived by his three children from his first marriage, to the late Cynthia (Meredith) Scott: Elizabeth S. Metcalf of Sherwood, Oregon; Gregory, M. Scott of Marshall, Virginia; and Andrew. P. Scott of Chicago, Illinois; and by his six grandchildren. He is also survived by daughters of his second wife, Philo Rosenfeld; Kerry Liedquist, Clare Andonoff; and Shannon Tieman. He also is survived by his close and beloved companion during the final years of his life, Cappy Innes, also Cornell ’52, of Dallas, Pennsylvania. A private memorial service will be held for family members at Vinson Hall this summer. The family is requesting that any memorial gifts in lieu of flowers be given to the McLean Community Players, 1234 Ingleside Ave, McLean, VA 22101 (http://www.mcleanplayers.org/MCP/Show.cfm?ShowID=Patrons).
