Mildred Thompson Shifflett passed away on December 30, 2023, surrounded by family at her home in Vienna, Virginia. Born on October 6, 1926 in Washington, D.C., Mildred graduated from Fairfax High School in 1944. She married George C. Shifflett on February 14, 1947, and they remained together for over 52 years. They had 12 children: George M.; Edmond; Thomas; Mary; Joseph; Carol Ann; Matthew; Kathleen; William; John; Jean; and Daniel. She is predeceased by her husband and daughter Carol Ann, and is survived by 11 of her children, along with 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Mildred served as an election officer for Fairfax County, Virginia, from 1973 to 1988, and was a longtime member of the B&O Railroad Museum and Baltimore Streetcar Museum. The family will receive friends at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, 8601 Wolftrap Road, Vienna, Virginia on Tuesday, January 16 from 10 AM until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM. A private interment will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Quantico National Cemetery, 18424 Joplin Road, Triangle, Virginia 22172. My deepest sympathy to the family. I have ao many fond memories of her from when they lived with us on Shannon Place. She will be greatly missed.
