Resided in: Fairfax, VA

Minnie J. Crim was promoted to Heaven on February 13th, 2024 at the age of 91. Minnie left a legacy of faith and love. Minnie’s faith sustained her and shaped her positive outlook throughout her life. Minnie used this faith to encourage others, whether through her career as a Registered Nurse, doing lay speaking, talking to others during her life journey, or with her own children. Minnie had Jesus at the helm of her life which helped her deal with adversities. Minnie had a kind, gentle spirit, and exuded loving compassion.

Minnie was devoted to her children throughout her life. Minnie was always there for them. Minnie had a song for every occasion, and always an encouraging word. Minnie enjoyed going into D.C. and especially walking around the Tidal Basin. Minnie enjoyed tennis, ping pong, and cards. Minnie was competitive, yet a gracious winner. Minnie enjoyed activities at Wesley UMC over the years and with the book club comprised of nurses who had worked together. Minnie also was a wonderful storyteller, and enjoyed learning new things, most recently by asking Alexa. Minnie enjoyed her phone conversations with family, including her half-sister Rebecca, and friends. Minnie believed in enjoying the little things in life. Minnie was an avid reader, and would give book reviews for groups at the church before her eyesight made this undoable. Minnie’s mind was active, and she enjoyed singing hymns and old songs, and listening to CDs such as gospel music by Dolly Parton or Elvis, and songs by Nat King Cole. Minnie enjoyed walking outside around her condo with loved ones, and then sitting on the porch together on rocking chairs.

Minnie was born in Pitt County, NC. She attended nursing school in Rocky Mount, NC. Minnie worked at Duke University Hospital where she quickly became head nurse. Minnie was planning to go to Beirut, Lebanon, to work as a nurse but then met her future husband and father of her children. Minnie was then in Houston, TX, and was one of the operating room nurses during the first open heart surgeries at Methodist Hospital. Minnie continued her nursing in Virginia, and also taught nursing classes at a local college. Minnie was also active in various churches throughout her life. Minnie considered her most important accomplishment to be raising her children, and she was always there for emotional support.

Throughout her nursing career, whether working with mothers and babies or floating at various floors, mostly at Fairfax Hospital, Minnie gave 100% to every patient. Minnie also did private duty nursing and some psychiatric nursing. Minnie was a lay speaker and would preach at The Hermitage retirement home in Alexandria, VA, and also preached a few times at different churches.

Minnie was classy and elegant, had a good sense of humor, and enjoyed April fool’s jokes. Minnie was a warm, caring, and exceptionally loving person who thought of others before herself. She didn’t need the limelight but was the wind beneath many wings. Minnie led by example of how to live with integrity, humility, and honor. Minnie kept God first place in her life, and believed in the importance and power in prayer.

Minnie is survived by her three children: Lucy Lee Crim of Tennessee, Jennie Lynn Crim of Fairfax, VA, and F. Sprint Crim, Jr., of Leesburg, VA. Minnie is also survived by her half-sister (“sister”), Rebecca Jones Kleindl of Winston Salem, NC. Minnie was predeceased by her parents; sister, Shelby Jeanne Jones of Norfolk, VA; brother, Heber Alton Jones, Jr., of Norfolk, VA; and brother, Jesse David Jones of Durham, NC.
