Born in: Shatana, Jordan
Resided in: Arlington, VA

Nawaf Diab Murshed, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and faithful member of his community, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2026, at the age of 79.

Nawaf was born on November 26, 1946, in Shatana, Jordan, to Diab and Zayieleh Sawaged. He was the second youngest of eight children. From a young age, Nawaf showed determination and independence. After finishing middle school, he left home to join the Jordanian Army, where he proudly served his country for 13 years.

In the summer of 1969, Nawaf married the love of his life, Wadia Murshed. Their marriage was one of deep devotion and partnership that lasted until her passing in June 2024. Together they built a loving family and a life grounded in faith, resilience, and hard work.

In July of 1975, Nawaf moved to the United States in pursuit of greater opportunities for his family. He spent his first years working as a door-to-door salesman before bringing his family to join him in 1977. Through perseverance and dedication, he built a meaningful career. He worked for Marriott for more than a decade before beginning his final profession as a linguist for the United States government. In this role, Nawaf traveled extensively to and from the Middle East, serving with distinction until his retirement in 2012.

Nawaf was deeply devoted to his church and generously gave his time and resources in service to his faith and community. In retirement, he cherished time spent with his family, tending to his garden, and keeping up with current world events—something he loved discussing with those around him.

Above all, Nawaf was a loving and dedicated family man. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Wadia Murshed, and by his children, Munzer and Rana. He is survived by his son, Roni, and his beloved grandchildren: Alexandros, Maximos, Olivia, Mason, and Leonidas, who brought him immense pride and joy.

Nawaf will be remembered for his strength, generosity, faith, and unwavering love for his family. His legacy lives on in the lives of those who loved him and the many people he touched throughout his life.
