Oscar S. Mayers, Jr

oscar mayers, jr
Oscar Mayers, Jr., the beloved son of Oscar Mayers, Sr., and Carolene S. Mayers, departed this life on June 29, 2021 at age 66.

Oscar was a proud native Washingtonian with a commitment to excellence and great passion for his faith, his family, and his fraternity. He attended Ballou High School, Duke University, and Catholic University Law School and kept meticulous notes and records about the events that shaped his world at the time. His proudest accomplishment in his education was serving as a charter member of The Kappa Omicron Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc at Duke University.

After graduating, he worked for nearly 20 years as an Assistant US Attorney specializing in prosecuting homicides and other violent crimes in both Miami and Washington DC.

He was tested on several occasions but feared nothing in this life more than God. He seized every opportunity he could to demonstrate his love for the Lord. Oscar served as a deacon at Matthews Memorial Baptist Church and as a member of First Vienna Baptist Church he served as an usher and enjoyed singing in the men's choir.

A voracious reader, loquacious orator, and forever student, he had a great passion for enlightening himself about the stories of his community’s history and preserving the legacy of his own. Every conversation he had bursted with his pride for the accomplishments he, his friends, and family members made on this Earth.

He is survived by his daughters, Carolene, Elizabeth, and Gabriel "Gabi", his three sisters Sharon Gray, Sherl Randolph, and Debra Mixon, and countless extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, his nephew, Roderick M. Dunn, Jr., and his beloved son Robert "OJ" Mayers.

His homegoing celebration will be Sat July 17, 2021 at Money & King Funeral Home 171 Maple Ave W Vienna VA 22180. Masks are required.
