Patricia Marie Monson
June 25, 1940 – October 13,2023

Patricia passed away, surrounded by her family, on October 13, 2023 at INOVA Alexandria Hospital after an extended battle with cancer. Patricia is survived by her three children: Katherine Handforth (Bill), Richard (Jenny) and Daniel (D’Arcy). She is also fondly remembered by six grandchildren: Brian, James, David, Delaney, Max and Camryn. She also had two brothers: Michael and Terry.

She was born in Baltimore, MD. She attended Radford University for her bachelors in Psychology and continued her studies at Boston College before falling in love and marrying Richard M. Monson. They were happily married for over 56 years until his death in 2018. Over the coming years she would use her degree to help teach special needs children at both Divine Redeemer Catholic School (CO) and later Dunn Loring Elementary (VA). Years later, she would continue her education at Marymount University receiving her Masters Degree in Human Resource Development. She accepted a job with the US Navy Office of Personnel. She was so proud of our young men and women that she really enjoyed being able to help them get their promotions and recognition for their service.

Patricia was also a wonderful artist. She primarily painted still lifes and landscapes. She also painted some portraits. She was a recognized artist and had sold several of her works.

Patricia’s Visitation will be at 10 AM with her Memorial Mass directly afterward at 11AM. Both will be held at Our Lady of Good Counsel Vienna, VA. She will be finally laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery with her loving husband Richard M. Monson at a later date.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Trishie, was my sister in law while I was married to her older brother, Michael. We spent several fun times together when our children were young, at play grounds, parks and nature centers. She painted each of my kids a Peanuts character plaque, to hang in their nurseries, and inspired me to take up painting, as well.
I admired her work and study ethics, while she raised three children, kept a household humming, and cared for her mother. She was always cordial, kind, and set a good example of Christian living, for everyone. I pray her children and grandchildren will be comforted with memories of her love and devotion.
