I was so sorry to read about Rip’s passing. I wanted to share with you my favorite memory of Rip. When I was a freshman in High School, Rip was my first date! We went to an ice cream place in town and the waitress couldn’t stop the whipped cream container from squirting whipped cream everywhere!! We just laughed and laughed. He was a wonderful, joyful, person. Your family is in my prayers.
Rip was a part of my life from my earliest memories of Glastonbury. He had an active and curious mind that was always open to new adventures and opportunities. I was fortunate to have been a part of many of those adventures – in fact almost all of the interesting and outrageous experiences of my youth seemed to have involved Rip. He introduced me to sailing, and we hiked, bicycled, and did countless other things. He was rarely daunted by setbacks and seemed to view them as a chance for a new adventure. Rip showed me how to find the joy and excitement in the vagaries of life – something I value to this day. He was a true individual and unlike anyone I’ve ever known, and I will miss him. Susan, Betsy, and my parents Jim & Carol all send their condolences at your loss.
I don’t know when I first met RIp but I recall playing together as children; he was a funny, smart kid. I lost track of him after HS but my Dad used to see him on Lewis St. in Hartford (wearing a bowler). I got together with him just a few years ago when I found out he also lived in N. VA. We talked over a long lunch and he was as great company as ever. ‘So sad that he’s gone.
