Paul John Summers, Sr., passed away peacefully on August 3, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on April 23, 1944, in Buffalo, New York, Paul was the son of Paul and Lenore Summers. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in History from Canisius University and later received a Master of Arts in Russian Studies from Kent State University. Paul went on to serve his country with distinction through a 33-year career at the Central Intelligence Agency, retiring as a Senior Executive. In recognition of his exceptional contributions and dedicated service, he was awarded the Central Intelligence Agency Career Intelligence Medal.
Paul was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He shared over 52 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Eileen. A longtime member of Riverbend Country Club for more than 42 years, Paul enjoyed golf, fellowship, and the friendships he built there over the decades. He was also a passionate and loyal fan of the Washington “Redskins”, rarely missing an opportunity to cheer on his team.
Paul is survived by his wife, Eileen Summers; his children, Amy Lewis (Tim), Peter Summers (Alex), Marguerite McFadden (Luke), and Paul John Summers, Jr. (Stacey); his 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his 6 younger siblings — brothers, Peter, Patrick, Philip and John and sisters, Mary and Marguerite, along with their spouses, and many cherished nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved grandson, Tyler Lewis.
Paul will be remembered for his kindness, integrity, humility, and unwavering devotion to his family. He lived a life of service, generosity, and quiet strength, touching countless lives through his leadership, friendship, and example. His legacy will live on in the family he loved so dearly and in all who were fortunate enough to know him.
A funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on August 14, 2026, at St. Luke Catholic Church in McLean, Virginia
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Paul’s memory to Gonzaga College High School, Life with Cancer, or A Woman’s Choice for Life.

I only met Paul once. But spoke with him enough that day to know he was good man with intelligence. He also had that humility thing down. Condolences to the Summer’s family.
I had the privilege of working with Paul many years ago when he was a senior intelligence analyst. He was a very capable individual and a fine person. I learned a lot from him. I could always count on him to give me an honest, unbiased opinion on controversial topics. He was a pleasure to work with. I saw him recently at the Riverbend Country Club. He was as enthusiastic and amiable as ever. I shall miss him. My condolences to his family.
I worked with Paul in OCR. He had a great sense of humor. He gave a lot to CIA throughout career. My sympathies to his family. Midge Holmes
Eileen and family, Paul was admired during a long career at CIA for his professional skills, his collaborative manner, and his pride in a great family. You can be proud of him, as he was proud of you. You all enriched his productive life.

I have many fond memories of Mr. Summers and the entire family. I grew up in the same neighborhood and babysat the kids when they were little. Mr.Summers also had a warm smile and amazing laugh. I know he will be missed dearly. Thinking of all of you and sending my love.
