On Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at Fairfax Hospital, with her family by her side. She was the devoted wife of the late Elmer Lavon Meyer; mother of Mary Jo Meyer of Richmond, VA, Karen Meyer Brown (Dan) of Fisherville, VA and David Lavon Meyer (Cindy) of Fairfax, VA; grandmother of Justin Weaver Brown, Jennifer Ellen Brown, Louisa Kmible Meyer, and David Elliot Meyer; and great-grandmother of Darcy Leanne Brown and Judah Daniel Brown. She is also survived by her brother, Carl Wesley Powers of Springfield, IL, and four nephews and four nieces.

She was the daughter of Joseph Wesley Powers and Bertha Alice Pearson and was born in Nebo, Illinois on October 22, 1917. She moved to Washington, DC in September 1940 to work for the War Department. She married Lavon on February 7, 1942 at the National City Christian Church, in Washington, DC and was one of the first employees to occupy the Pentagon. She continued to serve her country during WWII at the Great Lakes Naval Station in Illinois, when her husband was on active duty. Upon returning to Washington, DC in 1946, she and her husband raised their family in Northern Virginia. She was a former member at Fairlington United Methodist in Alexandria, a charter member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Falls Church, and a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Vienna, Virginia, for the last 47 year, where she was active in the United Methodist Women. She was devoted to her family and her church friends, and was an avid reader and bridge player her entire life. She loved to travel, played the piano daily until her last illness and was a supreme solver of crossword puzzles.
