Peggy was always generous with her time and resources to help other journalists. It was a pleasure to work with her when I was political writer at the Beaumont Enterprise and she was the Washington correspondent, and it has been an honor to be her friend. May she rest in peace.
Miss Peggy was always gracious and kind to me. A beautiful lady and a loving mother, she will be missed by all those whose lives she touched. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. I know she is smiling down on you from heaven.
Peggy and I worked together at the Hearst Washington bureau for six years. Her dry wit kept us on our toes and we were eternally impressed by her infinite recall of Texans and Alabamians, who she knew. I don’t believe an Alabamian could enter the dreaded Beltway around Washington without first alerting Peggy and getting permission to come aboard. All who worked with her will remember her warmth and her deft keyboard mastery. She was a treasured colleague.
Peggy was a dear and treasured friend. My regret is that I was not aware of her illness to see her through it. We met 20 years ago through Charlie and Pauline Sullivan, co-directors of National CURE, a prison reform organization, who knew Peggy from their Texas years. Peggy was a sharp lady whose company I fully enjoyed. The last time we were together, she treated me lunch at the National Press Club. Everyone we met were genuinely happy to see her. I will miss her, and send my love to her children who she loved so much.
So sorry to hear about Peggy, many fond memories of her over the years. My condolences to Lee Ann, Carol and Bill.
Peggy was a close friend and member of CURE, Citizens United for Rehabilitation of Errants. She was very supportive of CURE’s goal of prison reform. Chalrie & Pauline, Co-Directors, CURE
