Phyllis Ann Brown (Kinkade), 81, of Falls Church, VA, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2026. She was born in Olney, IL on November 25, 1944 and grew up in the small town of West Salem, where her family had deep roots in farming, education and the Moravian Church community. Phyllis received her bachelor’s degree from Eastern Illinois University, where she met the love of her life, William “Bill” Albert Brown. They were married on December 30, 1967 and celebrated 54 years of marriage. Phyllis worked as a speech language therapist and teacher in school districts in Illinois, California, and Massachusetts before moving to the Northern Virginia area to raise her children. In later years, she enjoyed teaching at Apple Tree, Nysmith and Truro Preschools, and was gifted working with children and fostering their imagination through love of reading and play. Phyllis and Bill were faithful members of St. Timothy Catholic Church in Chantilly, VA. She enjoyed reading, gardening, vacationing, and spending time with family and grandchildren. Phyllis was loved by family including children Sarah Nuñez (Rod) and Jennifer Schum (Jeff), grandchildren Benjamin Nuñez (Eryn), Samuel Nuñez, and Allison Schum, and siblings Robert Kinkade (Joan) and Ronald Kinkade (Janet). She was preceded in death by her husband Bill and her parents, Howard and Virginia Kinkade (Knakmuhs). A celebration of life will be held Saturday, February 28, 2026 at 10am at Truro Anglican Church, 10520 Main St, Fairfax, VA 22030. In lieu of flowers, donations in Phyllis’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at https://www.stjude.org/donate/donate-to-st-jude.html.
