Promila Arthur

Promila Arthur, 81, of Springfield, Virginia, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2026, after a courageous battle with liver cancer.

Promila was born on August 28, 1944, in Jhansi, India, to Samarth and Rachel Singh. From an early age, she carried a quiet strength, deep compassion, and a heart devoted to caring for others—qualities that would define her life.

After completing her early education, Promila studied nursing at Palwal Christian Hospital, laying the foundation for a lifelong dedication to caring for others. She began her career in healthcare in India, serving with compassion and kindness at Safdarjung Hospital, then went on to work at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences before later continuing her work with the Indian Railway Hospital.

Promila met Gladwin, and they were married in April of 1969 and built a life rooted in love, faith, and family, welcoming their two children, Avinash and Rekha, who remained at the center of her world.

On April 16, 1984, Promila began a new chapter when she moved to Alexandria, Virginia, from India. With determination and grace, she built a life in a new country, dedicating herself to caring for others through her work in nursing homes, including Sleepy Hollow and Arden Courts. She truly loved what she did, treating every person she cared for with kindness, dignity, and compassion. Her unwavering faith in Jesus Christ and devotion to the Church of Christ guided her life and the love she so freely gave to others.

After retiring in 2007, Promila devoted her time to her faith and community, volunteering with the Springfield Church of Christ and the Indian Christian community church. She found joy in life’s simple moments—cooking, shopping, and cherishing time with her beloved grandchildren—and above all, caring for her daughter, Rekha, who held a special and immeasurable place in her heart.

Promila was predeceased by her father, Samarth, her mother, Rachel, and her sisters Nirmala and Sharola.

Promila is survived by her brothers Baban, Arthur, and sisters Komila, Sunita, Vimla, her son, Avinash, his wife, Jeaneen; her daughter, Rekha; her beloved grandchildren, Ashley, Austin, and Anastasia (her husband Jade), along with extended family and dear friends who will continue to carry her love forward.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 26th at 2:00 PM at Money & King Funeral Home, 171 Maple Avenue West, Vienna, Virginia 22180, followed by a celebration-of-life reception at 3:00 PM. A graveside service and burial will take place on Tuesday, April 28th at 11:00 AM at Andrew Chapel Cemetery, 1308 Trap Road, Vienna, Virginia 22182. All who knew and loved her are welcome to attend and celebrate her life.

  2. An ordinary woman with an extraordinary life that’s what I will call for Mausi who as my mother’s elder sister will always be my second mom. I will cherish all the time spent with her as memories that will remain in my heart forever. Rest in peace Mausi till we meet again. Sending much love and prayers to all our family members especially mausa, Rekha, Anji bhaiya, Jeaneen Bhabi, Ashley, Ana and Austin.

  3. Praying for everyone who loves Mrs. Arthur. May her legacy live on for years to come. God bless you all. Love, light and healing prayers.
    Love, Olivia and family.

  4. Sad to learn of dear aunty’s passing. I remember running into her at the bus stop in Annandale where she would change buses as I was walking home from my job in the neighborhood. She was such a wonderful, warm, kind and loving soul and I know her legacy is carried on with Anji bhai and his family. I’ll miss you aunty you gave me the sweetest hugs and were such a good friend to my parents. Hope you and my dad are sharing a joke up there. Lots of love, Shameera and Aunty Louisa.

  5. May the God of peace offer Mrs Arthur family and comfort that surpasses all understanding in this time of trouble and grief.
