Regina Saffa Newberry

On Wednesday, October 27, 2010, Regina succumbed to the effects of a heart attack at Sibley Memorial Hospital, attributable to her long struggle with diabetes.

She is survived by her husband, Milton Sims Newberry; two children, James Milton Newberry and Diane Newberry Lott; and three grandchildren, Jonathan Milton Newberry (age 17), Chester Trent Lott, III (age 12), and Lucie Sims Lott (age 9).

Regina was born in Oklahoma, July 6, 1936. Her parents were Charles C.K.T. Saffa and the former Lucille Jabour. She married her husband of 50 years, October 9, 1960 and lived the life of an Army wife for 26 years, living in Oklahoma, California, Kansas, Virginia, Missouri, and in Europe twice. Living in McLean since 1986, she was active in the Women's Club of McLean and in the International outreach sponsored by the Army Officers' Wives' Club, Greater Washington Area (AOWCGWA).

She benefited from being a member of a large family, having two sisters, Beverly S. Stapleton and Charlene S. Wagner, and a brother, Charles S. Saffa. She had four nieces and nephews, Michael Stapleton, Pati Stapleton, Tom Stapleton, Susie Simon, Carlton Saffa, and Rachel Selman. She was also fortunate to have many grand nieces and nephews.

Regina provided the strong glue that sustained and invigorated her family. Her husband, children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews all benefited from her affection and compassion. Her proudest legacy is a loving extended family.

For those interested, memorial donations to the American Diabetes Association are suggested.

Guestbook

  1. Please accept my deepest sympathies for your loss. There is a void that cannot be replace. The life insurance we buy is really preparation for death. But the life insurance Jehovah God offers is the destroying of death itself and all the things we can think of that causes it. He will do this through His Kingdom that His Son Jesus Christ is King of. We can gain comfort now through the Bible. And in the very near future we will hold our love ones again. We all will live happy healthy lives forever in exquisite delight and in an abundance of peace here on earth.

  2. Our heartfelt condolences to the Newberry family. Regina was such a sweet and nice woman; we enjoyed her company and conversation at Corgi Glen barn parties.

  3. Dear Jamie and Diane and family,
Sending love. Regina was one of my favorite people in the world, ever, and I will always remember her. Love, Leslie
